Professeur à l’université Catholique de Louvain et au Collège d’Europe, il est actuellement co-président du groupe international d’experts sur les systèmes alimentaires durables (<a href="http://www.ipes-food.org/" class="spip_out" rel="external">IPES-food</a>) et membre du comité des Nations Unies pour les droits économiques, sociaux et culturels (Economic, Social and Cultural Right).

Unies sur le droit à l’alimentation, poste auquel il a succédé au suisse Jean Ziegler.<br class='autobr' />
